Oatmeal Pumpkin Dog Treats

I love baking with pumpkin this time of year.  There always seems to be a little bit of pumpkin leftover whenever I bake a few things. What should you do with leftover pumpkin?  Make some dog treats of course!

Captain LOVES these! Just because it's easier, I tend to make these the size of human cookies and then break them up into pieces and give Captain a little bit at a time.

Oatmeal Pumpkin Dog Treats

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour (might need a little more)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup of water
1 egg
1/2 cup oats
1/2-1 cup pumpkin (depending on how many cookies you are making and how much pumpkin you have)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl.  Mix until all ingredients are combined.  If mixture is runny, add more flour.  If it seems too dry, add more pumpkin or water. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.  Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are light brown in color.

Allow the cookies to cool completely.

Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

  1. Dawn,
The http://doggestive.com website is looking to create a list of doggie treats using pumpkin. Would you like your recipe to be included? Or, if you would give us permission to reprint your article with a link back to your website, we would be thrilled to carry the photos of your dog, as well. Thanks!
