This recipe is the result of bad planning. I had planned tacos one night for dinner and guess what I never checked my supply of? Taco seasoning...
I used to buy the premade seasoning (not the packet-the kind that came in the jar so that we would always have some on hand). I guess we went through it faster than I thought because when taco night came, we had no seasoning. I was going to randomly mix some seasonings together, but I found this recipe online and was so happy that I did. I had everything I needed right in my pantry so this was really easy to throw together last minute. And it was perfect for our tacos. This recipe made a large amount, so now I will have plenty of seasoning for the future!
Homemade Taco Seasoning
4 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon paprika
3 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mixing well. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
To prepare taco meat, cook approximately 1 pound of beef, turkey, or chicken, add 1 cup of water and 2 heaping teaspoons of the seasoning, and simmer until the liquid is almost completely gone.)
