As I've mentioned before, I have found a new love with chicken burgers. I am always on the lookout for different ways to prepare them, and so when I came across the idea to make chicken Parmesan burgers, I knew I would have to try them. Chicken Parmesan and chicken burgers combined, umm yes, please! They ended up coming out even better than I imagined, they definitely have the flavor of chicken Parmesan, but in a burger! These will be making several appearances in our house for sure!
Chicken Parmesan Burgers
1 pound ground chicken
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 cup chopped flat leaf parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon yellow onion, finely diced
salt and pepper
Pasta sauce
Mozzarella or Provolone cheese, sliced or shredded
4 buns brushed with garlic butter
In a medium bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the burgers (ground chicken through salt and pepper). Form into 4 patties. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend together.
Heat grill. Grill burgers until cooked through, approximately 6 minutes per side. Top each burger with pasta sauce and cheese and continue to grill until cheese has melted. Serve on toasted buns.
Alternatively, these burgers can be cooked in the broiler. To do so, spray the broiler pan lightly with cooking oil and broil burgers for 4-6 minutes per side until cooked through. Remove from oven and top with sauce and cheese. Place burgers back under broiler until cheese is melted, approximately 30-60 seconds.
