Finding the recipe for a great homemade pizza sauce has been a challenge for Matt and I. Since we started making homemade pizzas just about every Friday for the past year and a half we have been continually searching for the right combination. This one is our favorite by far.
Pizza Sauce
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil (or fresh basil leaves to taste)
Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat, add the garlic, and saute for 1 minute, until fragrant and golden. Add the salt, pepper, oregano, and basil and allow to cook for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes and cook, stirring for one minute. Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for at least 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasonings to taste. Let the sauce cool before using.
