Dog Treats: Oatmeal Carob Chip Cookies

Our dog Captain might very well be the most spoiled dog alive.  Every now and then I like to treat him to something extra special-homemade dog treats.  I actually prefer to give him my homemade treats instead of ones bought from the store because I feel better knowing exactly what is in them. After doing some research on the Internet, I learned what is safe to give dogs and what is not (chocolate, grapes, etc).  I also learned that carob is a great substitute for chocolate.  Captain seems to agree.

These treats are so easy to make and they look great too!

Oatmeal Carob Chip Cookies for Dogs

1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup of water
1 egg
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup unsweetened carob chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment.  Alternatively, you can use a large bowl and a hand mixer.  Mix until all ingredients are combined.  Drop by tablespoonfuls onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.  Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are light brown in color.  Allow the cookies to cool completely before giving them as a treat to your favorite four-legged friend!

  2. Valerie-My dog LOVES carob chips. They were a bit hard for me to find-I ended up getting them at Whole Foods but they also sell them on Amazon.
